Impossible Wishes

To dream of a goal that is hard to achieve
They tell you to lower your expectations,
How can you attain a goal they believe is beyond the stars
You can't, they own you
If they say so then the corporate word is law
to set your sights on what they want
Controlled by the cardboard culture to which you have been betrothed

We made it to the moon they say
Now shut up and be on your way
is that not good enough for you
Do you want more
Then silence your madness and leave before I call the guards
I own you. How dare you step out of line

Good and evil are subjective but anyone can be nice to each other
Uncommon courtesy and a little bit of kindness are enough to make anyone's day
The consumer base wants a new IPhone and a new pesticide to kill off the weeds and poison us
They thrive on little pieces of paper with no more value than we give them
Does anyone know anything anymore or do they just get spit out of the education system and into a meaningless job
How can we survive without new, interesting things

Periods of stagnation that stretch on for decades
Everyone becomes a mindless drone that lives for the short periods of rest
In between garnering pointless knowledge about things that don't matter
and getting meaningless pat-on-the-back feelings of accomplishment from video games.

You cannot live under oppression
This silent murder of our souls
Like a frog in a pot of slowly heated water,
it never notices the heat until it is dead
Will you sit around and do nothing
Jump out of the pot before you become one with the machine.

Join them and exist forever without ever living
Reject them and fly as high and as far as you want,
you may die someday but not today for today you are free
Live in fear of being different and you'll never get to be yourself.
